Review of the Novel: Millionaire Under Construction

By: Salem Al-Masrahi

When I first read the title, I immediately assumed I would encounter another repetitive work under the umbrella of self-development, offering shortcut steps to amass wealth and prestige - something that has often proven disappointing. However, I was genuinely surprised by the novel's beginning. It tackled real-life doubts and tangible challenges and raised new questions before answering them with striking clarity: - Why shouldn't I seek wealth? - Is wealth reserved for a certain group of people? - Does contentment conflict with the pursuit of more money? I soon realized my perception of wealth had been limited. I found myself walking alongside Ahmad - a young man like you and me - as he embarked on his journey to seek wealth, and together we witnessed his experience unfold.

In every corner of this novel, there beats a genuine pulse of life.

Millionaire Under Construction - written by the engineer and author Salem Al-Masrahi and published on the "Kotobna" self-publishing platform - is a narrative memoir blending realism, personal experience, and social analysis.

Book Analysis:

The story begins by recounting Ahmad's past - a boy raised in a poor family in Saudi Arabia, highlighting his sick mother who refuses treatment. Ahmad later steps into the world of self-development by attending training courses where he meets the charismatic yet deceptive coach, Sherif. As events unfold, Sherif's true face is revealed. What once seemed like a celebration of hope turns into a mirror of betrayal, leading to a profound internal transformation in Ahmad. This turning point marks the beginning of a new consciousness - shaped by trials, failures, and a pivotal encounter with a successful businessman who takes Ahmad under his wing. Through a compelling personal narrative, this mentor illustrates the real nature of struggle, perseverance, recognizing strengths and weaknesses, and provides practical steps toward becoming a millionaire "under construction."

Key Ideas in the Novel:

- A critical look at the illusion of commercialized self-development, filled with empty slogans and false promises. - Reframing the concept of true wealth - emphasizing genuine effort grounded in knowledge and work. - The protagonist embodies a generation caught between dreams and harsh realities.

Language and Style:

The novel's language combines conversational classical Arabic, making it flowing and emotionally engaging. The style balances straightforward storytelling with deep, reflective pauses, raising existential and critical questions.

Strengths:

- High credibility and realism in the narrative. - A well-constructed dramatic arc. - Touching human dimensions, particularly through the portrayal of Ahmad's mother and his internal struggles.

Weaknesses:

- Occasional lengthiness in some passages. - Limited perspectives, focusing entirely on the protagonist's viewpoint.

Target Audience:

Suitable for young readers (16+) seeking success and those interested in realistic stories and autobiographies. May not suit fans of fantasy or those preferring triumphant endings and multi-perspective storytelling.

Memorable Quotes:

"I realized that the right path to success doesn't lie in a secure job, but in the courage to decide and the swiftness to venture." "I may have lost thousands of dollars... but I gained awareness - perhaps my very first true step toward wealth." "True wealth isn't measured by what you own but by the number of doors you managed to open despite them being firmly shut in your face." "They sold us the illusion of success in self-development courses and left us with bills that couldn't even buy a smile."

In conclusion, I was deeply moved by this wonderful novel. I truly believe it would be an excellent addition to any library and may very well replace many other books on the subject.
